    Accounting Manager


    This position is primarily responsible for managing the revenue accounting function, including all sales and accounts receivable from host stores, insurance carriers, independent doctors, retail customers and wholesale customers.  This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.  The Accounting Manager will provide leadership and professional development for two staff accountants, and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.  This position addresses tight deadlines and a number of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of systems integrity.  This position reports to the Controller and will have exposure to senior-level management and customer relationships, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal. 



    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting, general ledger structure and revenue and billing cycles
    • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting close
    • Provide review and analysis of bonus plan structure, assess impact of proposed changes and make recommendations based on the conclusions reached
    • Manage staff to ensure productivity and high efficiency by supervising daily work, and re-assigning tasks to prevent backlogs in the overall department flow.  Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
    • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
    • Work with direct reports to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
    • Assess and interpret effect of announced business changes, make recommendations to management on changes needed for work group as required
    • Manage quarterly and year-end audit/review and preparation of support
    • Collaborate with the other finance department managers to support overall departmental goals and objectives
    • Perform testing for system upgrades; monitor interfaces, export processes and other system flows, and troubleshoot issues as they arise
    • Respond to inquiries from financial management and senior-level company managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and other projects
    • Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements



    • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting required. Related fields of study will be considered. Advanced degrees (MA, MBA, MSC) in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA a plus
    • Must have 5 years’ work experience in similar role
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access skills required with proficiency in other Microsoft Office products
    • Previous experience working with Oracle or similar large automated accounting systems a plus
    • Must be able to multi-task and to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required
