Overview

U.S. Vision is the seventh largest retail optical chain in the United States. We have been engaged in the retail optical business since 1967. We have about 800 stores in 47 states across the country, and operate a state-of-the-art manufacturing laboratory in Blackwood, New Jersey (about 10 minutes from Philadelphia).

 

We are seeking a talented Tax Accounting Manager to join our team!

 

The Tax Accounting Manager is responsible for the preparation and filing of all federal, state and local income tax returns, as well as managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual provision for income taxes as prescribed under ASC 740 (SFAS 109, APB 28, and FIN 18). Included in these responsibilities is the preparation of all necessary disclosures required in annual financial statement filings.

The role is also responsible for working with Corporate Finance in estimating a forecasted effective tax rate, and working with the Corporate Controller and other internal departments in analyzing possible impacts from merger, acquisition, and other activities.

Responsibilities

This role reports directly to the Executive Vice President of Finance and manages two direct reports. The primary responsibilities of the Tax Accounting Manager include:

 

Income Taxes

  • Calculate the monthly, quarterly and annual tax provision under ASC 740
  • Develop footnote disclosures for the annual financial statements
  • Calculate the tax impact of impairments, discontinued operations, purchase accounting adjustments
  • Responsible for the preparation of the U.S. Consolidated 1120, statements, elections, and all state returns
  • Responsible for clearing all external auditor questions and requests
  • Responsible for the tax department compliance with Sarbanes Oxley procedures

Tax Research and Planning

  • Perform necessary federal tax research to support understanding of related tax compliance and other technical tax issues
  • Advise the financial reporting group on proper tax treatment of items and transactions
  • Assist with "what -if" analysis of proposed transactions within the company
  • Research and update the point of sale system, as necessary, for any changes in sales tax rates or taxability for current and new stores

Reconciliation of Accounts

  • Maintain understanding of the corporation's tax balance sheet and tax positions
  • Review tax liability accounts
  • Review intercompany analyses
  • Manage reconciling and maintaining support for deferred taxes

Other Tax Compliance

  • Manage the sales and use and property tax compliance processes
  • Prepare and file all of required property tax returns
  • Responsible for managing and responding to audit requests for all tax types, including federal and state income taxes, sales and use and personal property tax
  • Develop and maintain the overall budget and forecasting of all tax accounts
  • Coordinate unclaimed property compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Master's in Taxation or an MBA is a plus.
  • 5 to 7+ years of public accounting experience including significant amount of time preparing tax provisions, or similar experience with a large corporation.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing Consolidated federal 1120 and state tax returns for large corporations.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience using OneSource income tax software.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret state and local tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to pay close attention while performing actions with integrity and sound judgment
  • Must be self-motivated and team orientated with excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to effectively delegate workload, and to develop and motivate others.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
